Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has voiced concerns about the presence of a powerful and sophisticated cabal within President Bola Tinubu’s administration. In an interview on the ‘Mic On’ podcast with journalist Seun Okinbaloye, Dalung claimed that this cabal is more dangerous and experienced than those in previous governments, particularly contrasting it with the group that surrounded former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dalung asserted that the current cabal has shielded President Tinubu from the realities of governance and has actively worked to prevent any dissenting voices from reaching him. He emphasized that the members of this cabal are well-informed and have been entrenched in power for a long time, making them more adept at maneuvering within the political landscape.
In response to these allegations, President Tinubu had previously dismissed the notion of a cabal in his government during a meeting with Islamic leaders at the Aso Rock villa. He stated, “I have no cabal. I have no sponsors,” and attributed his electoral success to divine intervention and personal resources.
Dalung, unflinching in his criticism, claimed he is not afraid of repercussions, citing survival from ten assassination attempts. He characterized the cabal under Tinubu as possessing a level of sophistication that surpasses that of Buhari’s administration, which he described as composed of “uninformed people with little experience.” He expressed concern that this new cabal’s informed and experienced members pose a greater threat to the political landscape in Nigeria.
