The Chairman of the Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. John Gabaya, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ernest Agada. Mr. Gabaya, who is currently serving his second and final term after being elected in 2019 on the PDP platform, is scheduled to leave office in June. He has already set his sights on the 2027 elections, where he intends to run for the House of Representatives seat for the AMAC/Bwari constituency.

According to the statement, the defection is a strategic move to enhance development in the council through stronger collaboration with the federal government. Mr. Gabaya emphasized that the decision followed fervent prayers and extensive consultations with stakeholders, and was carried out in strict compliance with constitutional provisions.

“I have wholeheartedly embraced the APC as a platform for advancing peace, unity, and development in the Bwari Area Council,” Gabaya stated.

“This decision is about fostering better collaborations with the Federal Government to ensure long-term development for the council.”

While expressing gratitude to those who supported his emergence as council chairman, he acknowledged their resilience and sacrifice. He also extended his affection and respect to his former associates in the PDP, clarifying that the move was not borne of animosity but of a broader perspective on the collective interest of the council.
