Burna Boy, Davido Lead Nigerian Charge at AFRIMA 2025 Nominees

Nigeria’s top music talents have once again taken centre stage at the 2025 All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA), with Burna Boy and Davido each securing five nominations, underscoring their dominance on the continental music scene.

Burna Boy’s critically acclaimed project ‘No Sign of Weakness’ and Davido’s recent album ‘5ive’ both earned nods for Album of the Year. Their hit singles also placed them in the running for Song of the Year and Best Collaboration, reflecting continued fan and industry acclaim.

South Africa’s DJ Maphorisa matched the Nigerian duo with five nominations, including Album of the Year and Best African DJ, signalling fierce competition across Africa. Moroccan rapper El Grande Toto also featured prominently with five nominations for his tracks ‘Salgoat’ and ‘Diplomatico’.

Emerging Nigerian street-pop sensation Shallipopi grabbed four nominations, including for Song of the Year and Artiste of the Year, showcasing the rising generation of local talent. Tanzanian heavyweight Diamond Platnumz and South African singer Tyla similarly received four nods each, while Tanzanian artist Juma Jux earned three, including a Song of the Year nomination for ‘Ololufe mi’.

Other Nigerian stars Rema and Ayra Starr secured three nominations apiece, highlighting the country’s strong presence at the awards.
