According to former Special Adviser to the President, Babafemi Ojudu, former President Muhammadu Buhari did not support the presidential ambitions of his Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo. Ojudu also revealed that despite their friendship and political alliance, Buhari did not back current President Bola Tinubu, but Tinubu reportedly “outmaneuvered him in several ways.”
In an interview on Edmund Obilo’s State Affairs podcast, Ojudu stated that Osinbajo could have performed better than Tinubu, and he believed Osinbajo was the best person to lead Nigeria.
“Osinbajo would have been good for this country. For me, it is like losing Awolowo for a second time because he was at Awolowo’s level in terms of capacity, ability, dedication and commitment.”
Ojudu likened the failure to elect Osinbajo in the last presidential election to missing a second chance at the leadership of Chief Obafemi Awolowo. He expressed his support for Osinbajo and praised his abilities, dedication, and commitment to Nigeria.
In the 2023 APC primary, Tinubu secured the party’s presidential ticket with 1,271 votes, followed by Rotimi Amaechi and Yemi Osinbajo. Ojudu’s remarks shed light on the political dynamics within the ruling party and the ambitions of its key figures.
