President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a one-year extension for Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). The extension, announced Thursday by Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, means Adeniyi will continue in his role beyond his initial August 31, 2025, expiration date.
The Presidency stated that the extension is to allow Adeniyi to “consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives” of the current administration. These key projects include:
* The modernization of the Nigeria Customs Service.
* The implementation of the National Single Window Project, aimed at streamlining trade processes.
* The execution of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol.
President Tinubu commended Adeniyi’s “steadfast leadership and commitment to service,” expressing confidence that the extension will bolster the NCS in its core mandates of trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
