Dele Farotimi, a human rights lawyer, has been granted bail by the Ekiti State High Court amid a case brought against him by Chief Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. The court set the bail amount at N50 million, requiring a surety of the same value who must own landed property. The case has been adjourned to January 29, 2025, for further proceedings.

Farotimi’s legal troubles began after his arrest by the Ekiti State Police Command, with Babalola accusing him of defamation related to a book he authored, titled “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.” The arrest has led to significant public outcry, with civil society groups and the Nigerian Bar Association advocating for Farotimi’s release.
