Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans to establish a state-owned commercial airline in a move aimed at creating jobs and expanding opportunities for young aviation professionals in the state.
The governor disclosed the initiative while speaking on efforts to strengthen the state’s aviation sector, noting that the proposed airline would provide employment for Kano indigenes who have successfully completed their professional pilot training but are yet to secure jobs.
Mr Yusuf said the project forms part of his administration’s broader strategy to tackle unemployment, retain skilled professionals and position Kano as a major player in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
He added that the planned airline is expected to create direct and indirect employment opportunities, not only for pilots but also for engineers, cabin crew, ground handling personnel and other aviation professionals.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in human capital development and ensuring that graduates trained under government-sponsored programmes have viable career opportunities within the state.
The announcement comes as several state governments explore new initiatives to diversify their economies and improve youth employment through strategic investments in key sectors, including transportation and aviation.
