In a major political shift, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, immediate past governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State have officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made on Wednesday in Asaba by Senator James Manager following a prolonged meeting at the Government House that lasted over six hours. Senator Manager disclosed that the defection includes prominent political figures such as the governor, former governor Okowa, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, the state PDP chairman, all local government chairmen, and other key party members.

“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC,” Senator Manager said. “We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat.”

Observers Times recalls that during the last presidential election, Atiku Abubakar shifted his support from Nyesom Wike to Ifeanyi Okowa, signaling a re-alignment within the party’s ranks.

This defection marks a significant development in Delta State’s political landscape and could have far-reaching implications ahead of upcoming elections.
