A federal high court in Abuja just sentenced Saleh Mamman, the former power minister, to 75 years in prison. The case involved money laundering and fraud totaling N33.8 billion.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged him on 12 separate counts. He was found guilty on every one.

Judge James Omotosho gave him seven years on each of ten counts. Counts four and five drew three years and two years. The sentences run back to back, with no fine option on most of them. Count four is the exception; there the judge allowed a N10 million fine in place of the jail time.

The court also ordered the forfeiture of all foreign currencies seized from him, along with four choice properties in Abuja traced to the ex-minister.
