The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has clarified that the substantive drug trafficking case against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, remains active and on course.

This clarification follows a ruling by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which discharged Kyari on a 23-count charge bordering on money laundering and the alleged non-declaration of assets.

In a statement issued on Friday, NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, emphasized that the public should not confuse the two separate legal battles. He noted that while Justice Omotosho ruled on the asset-related charges, the main drug prosecution continues before Justice Emeka Nwite.

“The ruling by Justice Omotosho is completely different from the main and substantive drug case, which continues on Monday. That case is very much on course,” Babafemi stated.

The NDLEA further revealed that its legal team is awaiting the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment to review the details before deciding on a possible appeal regarding the money laundering discharge.
