The Ebonyi State Government has imposed an indefinite curfew on Amasiri communities in Afikpo North Local Government Area following a violent clash in Okporojo that claimed lives and left several others injured.

The curfew, which takes immediate effect, was announced as part of urgent measures to restore calm after renewed hostilities between rival groups in the area degenerated into bloodshed.

In addition to the movement restriction, the state government ordered the immediate closure of all primary and secondary schools within the affected communities, citing security concerns and the need to protect pupils and staff from further violence.

Confirming the development, a senior government official said security agencies had been deployed to enforce the curfew and prevent an escalation of the crisis. The official warned that anyone found violating the order would face the full weight of the law.

The government also expressed deep concern over the recurring violence in the area and appealed to community leaders, youths and stakeholders to embrace dialogue and shun actions capable of plunging the communities into prolonged unrest.

Residents have been urged to remain indoors, cooperate with security personnel and report suspicious movements, as efforts continue to stabilise the situation and bring perpetrators of the violence to justice.

The Ebonyi State Government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, stressing that peace and security remain non-negotiable.
