Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi has called on the Supreme Court to order Osun State to refund seven months’ worth of local government allocations to the Finance Minister.
The demand, presented by Fagbemi’s counsel, Chief Akin Olujimi SAN, counters a lawsuit (SC/CV/379/2025) filed by Osun, alleging the Federal Government withheld funds for its 30 local councils in March 2025.
Fagbemi rejected Osun’s claims, accusing the state of defying a July 2024 Supreme Court ruling and lacking the authority to sue on behalf of local governments.
In a robust objection, he argued the case lacks merit, violates constitutional jurisdiction, and that only councils can seek redress for withheld funds.
