A severe windstorm hit Nasarawa State, again, particularly the Nasarawa West Senatorial District, on Friday, causing widespread destruction worth millions of naira. The storm, which began at around 4:40 pm, brought heavy rain and strong winds that unroofed houses, brought down electricity poles, and damaged properties.
Electricity poles that were newly erected in July last year were destroyed, Houses were unroofed and some brought down, including a church at Gidan Zakara in Keffi Local Government Area, Properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, including fences, roofs, and technical equipment at Bygrimi Goodson Ideal Resources Nigeria Limited
Reaction from Stakeholders, among others ,includes the Area Commander of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, ACC Kingsley Odoemena, who lamented the degree of damages caused to public facilities and attributed it to substandard electric poles
Also,a residents of Mahanga Community in Awe Local Government Area have called on the government to provide emergency assistance to help them recover from the disaster
The residents of Mahanga Community have appealed to their representatives, including Hon. Umar Dan’akano, Hon. Hudu Alhaji Hudu, and Commissioner Umar Tanko Tunga, to provide relief materials, shelter, and support to their community.
The windstorm has caused significant damage to properties and infrastructure in Nasarawa State, highlighting the need for urgent assistance to affected communities. The government and relevant authorities are expected to take swift action to provide relief and support to those affected.
