The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has commended troops of the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade for their discipline, professionalism and operational effectiveness in Edo State.
Shaibu gave the commendation on Friday, November 6, 2026, during his maiden operational visit to the brigade’s headquarters.
He assured troops that plans would be made to renovate their accommodation and provide a new bus to address transportation challenges.
The COAS also reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to improving access to functional medical facilities for personnel and their families, including their children. He said troop welfare was essential to operational effectiveness and remained a priority under his “Soldiers First” culture.
He urged personnel to reciprocate the support through discipline, professionalism, loyalty and dedication to duty.
Shaibu also directed troops to operate within the law, respect civilians’ rights, protect innocent people and deal decisively with criminal elements in their area of responsibility.
He praised the brigade commander, Brigadier General Ahmed Balogun, for his leadership and collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders.
Earlier, Balogun briefed the COAS on the security situation in the brigade’s area of responsibility and outlined administrative and logistical challenges facing the unit. He thanked Shaibu for the visit and welfare assurances, and pledged that the brigade would continue working to sustain its operational gains.
The visit included the signing of the visitors’ book, the presentation of souvenirs, a tree-planting ceremony and group photographs.
