Seriake Dickson has accused Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri of surrendering the state to the All Progressives Congress, APC, warning that he would face political consequences in 2027.

Dickson, the national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, made the accusation during a political visit to his community, Toru-Orua, alongside the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other party leaders.

He alleged that Diri had sacrificed the interests of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which brought him to power, for personal political gains.

“You have surrendered Bayelsa to APC. You have sold Bayelsa to APC and you will pay for it in 2027,” Dickson said.

“Bayelsa is PDP and PDP is Bayelsa. You cannot sell our state because of your second term ambition.”

Dickson said he would work with other founding PDP leaders and loyalists of former President Goodluck Jonathan to reclaim the state from Diri and the APC in 2027.

He described the governor’s alleged actions as anti-party conduct and a betrayal of the political family that supported his emergence and re-election.

“We gave you a PDP ticket, we made you governor twice. Now you want to give Bayelsa to APC. It will not work. We will reclaim Bayelsa in 2027,” he declared.

Dickson maintained that Bayelsa residents would resist attempts to transfer the state’s political support to the APC.

The Director-General of the NDC National Campaign Council, Mallam Ibrahim Abdulkarim, was also on the visit.

The confrontation has deepened divisions within the Bayelsa PDP, with rival camps aligned with Dickson and Diri battling for influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
