The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday commissioned an officers’ transit accommodation at Life Camp, Abuja, as part of 11 projects inaugurated in the Federal Capital Territory.
A further 38 projects were commissioned at Nigerian Army formations and units across the country, bringing the total to 49. The projects are intended to improve accommodation and infrastructure, personnel welfare and operational efficiency.
Speaking at the ceremony, Shaibu said the projects reflected his command philosophy, particularly its focus on sound administration and the “Soldier First” concept. He said improved welfare and functional infrastructure were important for personnel morale, productivity and the Army’s operational readiness.
The army chief urged officers who will use the new accommodation to maintain the facility and observe high standards of discipline and responsibility. He also said the Army would continue investing in welfare and infrastructure across its formations, and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support.
Earlier, the Chief of Logistics (Army), Maj.-Gen. Adekunle Adeyinka, said the accommodation was built to meet the temporary housing needs of officers posted to Army Headquarters and other formations in Abuja. The facility comprises furnished, self-contained apartments for officers awaiting permanent accommodation.
During his visit, Shaibu inspected ongoing works at Life Camp, including additional accommodation blocks, road rehabilitation and drainage. He expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of the work, and directed contractors to meet approved timelines and specifications.
