Senate President Godswill Akpabio has alleged that most people attacking President Bola Tinubu and his supporters on social media are being paid to do so.
Akpabio made the allegation on Wednesday while receiving members of the Arewa Revival Project, a northern youth organisation, at his office.
The group, led by its coordinator, Mustafa Ibrahim, comprises members from the 19 northern states and presented an award to the Senate President in recognition of his contributions to nation-building.
Addressing the delegation, Akpabio urged northern youths to intensify grassroots mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, warning that they would face strong opposition from critics on social media.
He said many of those attacking the President were financially motivated, unlike the youths voluntarily supporting his administration.
“Most of those who are attacking the President and attacking these young men on social media are being paid,” Akpabio alleged.
The Senate President encouraged the group to engage Nigerians directly and counter what he described as misleading narratives about the government’s performance.
He maintained that the Tinubu administration’s policies were designed to stabilise Nigeria’s economy and secure a better future for young people.
Defending the President’s economic reforms, Akpabio said the administration had introduced measures to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on crude oil revenue.
He specifically praised the government’s tax reforms and efforts to amend outdated laws, arguing that the changes would strengthen the economy.
Akpabio further claimed that Tinubu had achieved an unprecedented level of development since assuming office.
He said members of the National Assembly were satisfied with the President’s performance and had endorsed his bid for a second term.
The Senate President urged the northern youths to remain committed to mobilising support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
