Zenith Bank Plc has introduced Google Pay for eligible cardholders, allowing them to make contactless payments at participating terminals and pay online or in apps without repeatedly entering their card details.
Customers can add a supported Zenith Bank card to Google Wallet on a compatible device and complete the required verification process. Use of the service depends on card eligibility, device compatibility and merchant acceptance.
The bank said Google Pay uses tokenisation, which replaces a customer’s card number with a digital token during transactions. This helps limit the exposure of actual card details when making payments.
Zenith Bank said the launch was part of its technology-led approach to improving the customer experience. In 2007, it opened what it describes as Nigeria’s first ATM gallery, providing access to cash outside conventional banking hours, including on weekends and public holidays.
The bank’s Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dame Dr Adaora Umeoji, said the development reflected the bank’s digital ambitions. She also pointed to the Zenith Bank Tech Fair 2026, themed Future Forward 6.0, scheduled for November 5.
