President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed off on 18-month extensions for the two top officials. One is Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, who runs the Nigerian Correctional Service. The other is Kemi Nandap, who heads the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, broke the news in a statement Monday. With the extra time, Nwakuche’s term now ends May 26, 2028. Nandap’s runs until June 30, 2028.
The decision followed a recommendation from Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. It closes a succession gap at both services and gives the boards breathing room to pick the next leaders.
Tinubu thanked the pair for the reforms they’ve pushed through. He told them to keep building on those results.
He had nominated Nwakuche for the correctional job in December 2024. The Senate confirmed him the following March. Tinubu tapped Nandap for the immigration post on February 21, 2024. Senators signed off on her appointment March 1 that year.
