The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate dismantling of unauthorised beer parlours operating in the Asokoro area of Abuja, citing potential security threats.
Wike gave the directive on Friday following a high-level security meeting with the FCT Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.
The minister said the decision followed security intelligence concerning the activities of relaxation spots in the area, warning that the administration would not allow unauthorised businesses to create security risks in the nation’s capital.
According to him, reports indicated that some individuals were attempting to establish beer parlours without the necessary approvals along routes leading towards Asokoro.
“We have been told of some security threats originating from somewhere leading towards Asokoro, where some individuals are attempting to establish unauthorised beer parlour businesses,” Wike said.
“We will not allow that. There is no such approval, and we will not permit it.”
To enforce the directive, the minister instructed the FCT Department of Development Control to work alongside security agencies to clear the affected locations immediately.
He said the administration was determined to address potential threats before they escalated into wider security problems.
“We have directed Development Control, in conjunction with security agencies, to go and chase them away before we begin to have security problems. We will not allow that at all,” he added.
Wike said the decision was made public to inform residents of the administration’s position on maintaining law and order across Abuja.
The directive places responsibility on the relevant authorities to identify the affected businesses and enforce the administration’s position on unauthorised commercial activities.
However, the minister did not publicly identify the operators involved or disclose the specific locations targeted by the planned clearance.
The development comes amid the FCT Administration’s broader enforcement efforts aimed at regulating development and commercial activities in the nation’s capital.
