Dr. Sokonte Davies, a governorship aspirant on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, has defected to the Rainbow Coalition—a multi-party political alliance led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Davies, a former member of the House of Representatives, was previously a key ally of both Atiku Abubakar and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

His defection was made public on Wednesday following a visit to Wike’s private residence in Port Harcourt. Confirming the meeting, Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, shared photographs of the minister and Davies together on social media.

Wike, who has spent the past week in Rivers State, has been holding consultations with prominent local politicians to build support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Davies’ move is the latest in a series of cross-party realignments currently reshaping the political landscape in Rivers State.
