The Federal Government has arraigned Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged Director-General of the purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations of forgery, impersonation and conspiracy.
Adeyemi was arraigned on Wednesday before Justice Mohammed Umar on an eight-count charge. Prosecutors allege that he forged official documents, including an appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by the then Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. The government also alleges that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of an agency it says does not exist.
The case has attracted significant attention after Adeyemi allegedly operated the purported agency from offices within the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and corresponded with government institutions. Prosecutors are expected to rely on a range of documents and witness testimony during the trial.
After the charges were read to him, Adeyemi pleaded not guilty to all eight counts, putting the prosecution to proof. His lawyer also informed the court that a bail application had been filed and was ready for hearing.
The court subsequently ordered that Adeyemi be remanded in the Kuje Correctional Centre and adjourned the matter until 12 October 2026 for trial and hearing of his bail application. Adeyemi had previously failed to appear for arraignment, prompting the court to issue a bench warrant for his arrest.
Adeyemi has previously maintained that the PFIPC was legitimate and disputed the allegations against him. The criminal proceedings will now determine the allegations and the validity of the documents at the centre of the case.
