Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Babachir Lawal, has accused the party’s governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed (Binani), of sabotaging the party by supporting African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar instead of the NDC’s candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Lawal made the direct allegation on Monday in a statement published on his verified Facebook page.
According to the ex-SGF, who recently joined the NDC and was tasked with leading party leadership and mobilization efforts across the North-East and North-Central regions, the friction stemmed from a orchestrated attempt to undermine his authority. He alleged that Binani sponsored recent reports claiming that six NDC governorship candidates from the North-East had collectively rejected his appointment as regional party leader.
Firing back at the reports, Lawal described the claims as sponsored political opposition and revealed that several candidate signatures had been weaponized or misrepresented. He disclosed that the NDC governorship candidates for both Gombe and Taraba States had personally reached out to him to formally dissociate themselves from the anti-Lawal statement.
The sharp exchange exposes growing anti-party activity and regional internal friction within the opposition coalition as figures attempt to solidify internal influence ahead of the 2027 presidential campaign trail.
As of press time, neither Senator Binani’s campaign office nor the national leadership of the NDC has issued an official response to Lawal’s claims.
