The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday commissioned 30 newly completed family accommodation units at Ribadu Cantonment as part of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing infrastructure renewal programme.
The development, comprising two blocks of family housing, is intended to ease pressure on existing accommodation within the cantonment and provide a more conducive living environment for personnel and their families. The project forms part of wider efforts to rehabilitate ageing barracks and expand welfare facilities across formations nationwide.
“Decent accommodation is a vital component of personnel welfare and robust administration,” Lieutenant General Shaibu said, stressing that soldiers’ wellbeing has a direct impact on morale, motivation and operational effectiveness. He added that as the Army expands its force structure and operational reach, corresponding investment in infrastructure is essential.
The COAS urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the new units and ensure their proper use and maintenance. He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for continued support and provision of resources to improve the living conditions of Army personnel and their families.
Major General Abubakar Muhammed Wase, General Officer Commanding 1 Division, described the project as timely and morale-boosting, and assured that the facilities would be properly utilised and maintained.
The Army said similar accommodation projects are ongoing in barracks and cantonments across the country to meet evolving operational and welfare requirements.
