The Federal High Court sitting in Gombe has ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to conduct a fresh primary election for its 2026 governorship ticket in Gombe State.
Delivering judgment on Thursday, Justice Amina Aliyu Mohammed granted the relief in a suit filed by Usman Aliyu Garry, who challenged the emergence of Prof. Isa Ali Pantami as the PDP governorship candidate.
Garry argued that Pantami’s announced nomination — declared by the party as a sole candidacy on June 26, 2026 — was invalid because the required primary election was not properly conducted.
Pantami, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirant who defected to the PDP after the APC adopted Jamilu Gwamna as its consensus candidate, had been affirmed as the PDP candidate by voice during a party primary held in May.
The court, however, ordered the PDP to organise a fresh primary election in accordance with the party’s guidelines and relevant electoral laws.
