The Cross River State Police Command has released the photograph of an unidentified female guest found dead in a Calabar hotel earlier this month, appealing to the public to help establish her identity.
The deceased was discovered in a room at a hotel located along Clifford Lane, Calabar South, under circumstances the police are currently treating as a suspected homicide.
In an update released on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, stated that the move became necessary after several weeks passed without anyone coming forward to claim the body or identify the victim.
**The Investigation So Far**
Preliminary findings by the police reveal that the woman arrived at the hotel in the company of a male guest. However, the man’s whereabouts remain unknown as he reportedly fled the premises before the body was discovered.
“Efforts are ongoing to locate the male companion and establish exactly what transpired in that room,” the PPRO said.
Regarding the hotel staff, the police confirmed that the receptionist who was on duty during the incident is currently in custody.
“The receptionist is assisting investigators with details regarding the admission of the guests and the events leading up to the discovery. His detention should not be seen as a determination of guilt, but as a necessary step in the investigative process,” Eitokpah clarified.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has ordered a professional and objective investigation into the matter. The CP emphasized that the priority is to identify the deceased, locate the fleeing male guest, and determine the level of involvement, if any, of all parties linked to the case.

The police have urged anyone who recognizes the woman in the photograph or has information regarding her family, associates, or the missing male guest to come forward.
