The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Kankarofi, has called on young people to reject political violence, digital thuggery, misinformation and other forms of criminality capable of undermining peace and security in the state.
The police commissioner made the appeal while urging youths to channel their energy and influence towards activities that promote peace, responsible citizenship and the development of their communities.
CP Kankarofi warned against the growing use of social media and digital platforms to spread false information, incite violence or engage in online intimidation, describing such activities as threats to public order and social cohesion.
He particularly urged youths to resist being used as instruments of political violence, stressing that disagreements over political parties, candidates or ideologies should not degenerate into confrontation or criminal behaviour.
The commissioner also called on young people to verify information before sharing it, warning that the deliberate spread of misinformation and inflammatory content could heighten tensions and create unnecessary conflict.
He assured residents that the Kogi State Police Command remained committed to protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and working with communities and relevant stakeholders to prevent crime.
CP Kankarofi further encouraged parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to guide young people towards constructive engagement and responsible participation in civic and political activities.
He said the future of Kogi depended largely on the choices young people made today, urging them to become agents of peace rather than instruments of violence.
The police chief’s warning comes amid growing concerns over the role of youths in political mobilisation, online misinformation and criminal activities, particularly as political activities continue to intensify across the country.
