Former Vice-President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the killing of 32 people in Ungushi community, Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Atiku described the incident as devastating, urging the Federal Government to move beyond condolences and take concrete measures to protect citizens and prevent further attacks.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, Atiku expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and the people of Sokoto State, praying for the repose of those killed.
“I am devastated by the killing of 32 innocent Nigerians in Ungushi community, Kebbe LGA of Sokoto State,” he said.
He called on the government to strengthen intelligence gathering, secure vulnerable communities and ensure that those responsible for the killings are arrested and prosecuted.
Atiku warned that the recurrence of deadly attacks across the country was deeply concerning, stressing that the primary responsibility of any government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
He urged the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive action to prevent further loss of lives, saying Nigerians should not continue to bury their loved ones while security challenges persist.
The attack in Ungushi has renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Sokoto State, with calls growing for stronger security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
