The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed illicit drugs worth an estimated N301 billion in Lagos, including large consignments of cocaine, heroin and other prohibited substances.
The agency said the exercise formed part of its ongoing efforts to disrupt the trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs in Nigeria.
Among the substances destroyed were cocaine, heroin and other narcotics seized during operations targeting drug trafficking networks in Lagos.
The NDLEA said the seizures represented a significant blow to criminal networks involved in the illegal drug trade, while highlighting the scale of the challenge posed by illicit drugs in the country.
Officials said the destruction followed the necessary legal and regulatory procedures governing the disposal of seized narcotics.
The agency has intensified operations against drug traffickers in recent years, conducting raids, arrests and seizures across the country as part of efforts to curb the movement of illicit substances.
The NDLEA has repeatedly urged members of the public to provide information that could assist authorities in identifying and dismantling drug trafficking networks.
The agency said it would continue to pursue those involved in the production, trafficking and distribution of illicit drugs, while strengthening efforts to protect communities from the social and health consequences associated with drug abuse.
