The vice-presidential candidate of the NDC for the 2027 general elections, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has commended the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) for speaking out against the worsening economic hardship and insecurity in the country.
Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State, made the commendation in a statement shared on his official social media accounts on Tuesday night.
He praised the bishops for their courage and patriotism in highlighting the critical challenges currently facing Nigerians.
“I commend the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) for demonstrating courage and patriotism by drawing attention to the realities confronting our nation,” Kwankwaso said.
He noted that the issues raised by the clergy are non-partisan and reflect the daily struggles of ordinary citizens across the country.
“Their concerns regarding the rising cost of living, worsening insecurity, declining public confidence, and the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians are neither partisan nor isolated; they reflect the daily experiences of ordinary citizens across every region of our country,” he added.
Kwankwaso lamented that despite Nigeria’s vast human and natural resources, millions of citizens continue to suffer from economic hardship, unemployment, and insecurity, alongside poor access to quality education, healthcare, and diminishing opportunities.
He called for immediate, people-centred action from the government to address these pressing challenges.
“These challenges demand urgent, sincere, and people-centred responses from those entrusted with leadership,” Kwankwaso urged.
Furthermore, he called on Nigerians to remain active in demanding accountability, encouraging citizens to engage constructively with leaders at all levels.
“I encourage all well-meaning Nigerians to continue constructively engaging the Federal Government and other leaders at all levels whenever the opportunity arises, advocating for good governance, accountability, and policies that prioritise the security, welfare, and prosperity of our people,” he stated.
Kwankwaso concluded by emphasizing that national progress relies on collective commitment and responsible leadership, offering prayers for the peace and unity of the nation.
