The Nigerian Army has received continental recognition after being named Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch.
The recognition was announced in a statement posted on X by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele.
According to African Security Watch, the accolade highlights the Army’s operational achievements, strategic leadership, and commitment to combating violent extremism. The organization cited the Nigerian Army’s success in coordinated joint operations, intelligence-driven campaigns, civil-military cooperation, and capacity building, noting that these efforts have significantly weakened terrorist networks while bolstering national and regional security.
Receiving the award, Lt. Gen. Shaibu described the recognition as a tribute to the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices of army personnel.
“The award validates the effectiveness of the Nigerian Army’s evolving counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency strategy and reinforces its position as a continental model for addressing complex security challenges,” Shaibu said.
The Army Chief dedicated the honor to fallen officers and soldiers who lost their lives in the line of duty, as well as their families.
Shaibu reaffirmed the military’s commitment to sustaining operational gains through intelligence-led missions, improved training, inter-agency collaboration, and enhanced personnel welfare.
He added that the Nigerian Army remains dedicated to transforming into a more professional, adaptive, and combat-ready force capable of decisively addressing evolving security threats and contributing to peace across Africa.
