The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has acknowledged and corrected the mistakes that fuelled the prolonged political crisis in the state.
Speaking during an interview, Wike said the governor had taken steps to address the issues that strained their political relationship, stressing that the reconciliation process was progressing positively.
According to the former Rivers State governor, admitting mistakes and embracing dialogue were key to restoring peace and stability in the state. He noted that political disagreements should not be allowed to overshadow governance or the interests of the people.
“Governor Fubara has corrected his mistakes,” Wike said, adding that efforts to rebuild trust and strengthen cooperation among political stakeholders were yielding results.
The remarks come amid ongoing moves to ease tensions following months of political uncertainty in Rivers State, which saw a fierce power struggle between Wike and his political successor.
The reconciliation has been viewed by political observers as a significant development that could pave the way for improved governance and greater political stability in the oil-rich state, although neither side has publicly disclosed the full details of their renewed understanding.
Wike expressed optimism that lasting peace would prevail, urging all stakeholders to prioritise the development of Rivers State above personal or political interests.
