Hamza Al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer to Nigeria’s late military ruler, General Sani Abacha, has rejected claims that the former head of state died during an intimate encounter with a woman, insisting he possesses CCTV footage of Abacha’s final moments.
Speaking in response to a recent publication that revived the long-standing allegation, Al-Mustapha described the report as false and misleading. He maintained that the circumstances surrounding Abacha’s death have been deliberately distorted over the years.
According to him, the alleged CCTV footage captures the events leading up to Abacha’s death and contradicts the widely circulated narrative that the former military leader died while engaging in sexual activity.
General Abacha, who ruled Nigeria from 1993 until his death on 8 June 1998, died suddenly at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. His death has remained the subject of speculation for nearly three decades, with conflicting accounts continuing to emerge.
Al-Mustapha’s latest remarks are likely to reignite public debate over one of the most controversial episodes in Nigeria’s political history, although he did not publicly release the purported footage to support his claims.
