The Federal Government has completed the evacuation of stranded Nigerians from South Africa after the final repatriation flight touched down in Lagos on Wednesday, bringing home 308 returnees.
The aircraft landed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at approximately 11:30am, marking the conclusion of the government’s latest repatriation exercise aimed at facilitating the voluntary return of Nigerian nationals from South Africa.
In addition to the 308 returnees, the flight conveyed three officials of the Federal Government who supervised the evacuation process.
The latest operation brings to a close the current phase of Nigeria’s repatriation programme, which was initiated to assist citizens seeking to return home from South Africa amid various personal and economic challenges.
Government officials are expected to oversee the reception, documentation and reintegration of the returnees in line with established protocols before they proceed to their respective destinations across the country.
The repatriation exercise underscores the Federal Government’s continued commitment to protecting the welfare of Nigerians abroad and providing consular assistance to citizens in distress, regardless of their location.
Further details on the reintegration process and the circumstances surrounding the returnees are expected from relevant government agencies.
