The Labour Party (LP) has officially unveiled Hajia Bintu Konto as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, completing its presidential ticket ahead of what is expected to be a fiercely contested race.

Konto will run alongside the party’s presidential flag bearer, Dr Chibuzo Okereke, in the 2027 presidential election, marking a significant step in the party’s preparations to challenge for Nigeria’s highest political office.

The announcement was made on Saturday in Abuja by the Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, who disclosed the development in an official statement.

Although the statement did not provide further details on the considerations behind Konto’s nomination, party officials described the unveiling as part of the Labour Party’s broader strategy to strengthen its national appeal and consolidate support across the country’s diverse political landscape.

Political observers say the emergence of Hajia Bintu Konto on the presidential ticket is expected to shape discussions within the party and the wider political space as preparations for the 2027 general election continue to gather momentum.

The Labour Party is expected to outline its policy direction and campaign agenda in the coming months as political parties intensify consultations, alliance-building, and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the polls.
