The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arrested Professor Bello Abubakar, the personal physician to former Nasir El-Rufai, over allegations that he misled investigators regarding the former governor’s whereabouts during a court-approved medical visit.

According to the anti-corruption agency, Professor Abubakar informed the commission that El-Rufai was receiving medical treatment at the National Hospital Abuja. However, the ICPC alleged that the former governor was instead attending a private meeting with Isa Ashiru Kudan.

The commission maintained that the medical visit had been approved strictly for healthcare purposes in line with the conditions set by the court and monitored by the ICPC. It alleged that the arrangement was exploited for activities outside the scope of the approval, describing the development as a deliberate attempt to mislead investigators overseeing compliance with the court’s directives.

The ICPC said it is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged breach and is expected to determine whether additional individuals were involved in facilitating the purported deception.

Neither Professor Abubakar nor representatives of El-Rufai had issued an official response to the allegations at the time of filing this report. Likewise, there has been no immediate reaction from Isa Ashiru Kudan regarding the alleged meeting.

The development comes amid ongoing legal and investigative proceedings involving the former Kaduna State governor, with the anti-graft agency insisting that all court-approved privileges must be strictly observed and not used for purposes beyond those authorised.
