The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismantled a suspected kidnapping syndicate operating within Abuja, arresting six alleged members linked to the abduction of a young woman in the highbrow Maitama district.
In a major breakthrough against criminal activities in the nation’s capital, police operatives also recovered N8.25 million believed to be ransom paid for the victim’s release, alongside two fully tinted vehicles suspected to have been used by the syndicate in carrying out its operations.
The arrests followed an intelligence-led operation launched after the victim was kidnapped in Maitama, one of Abuja’s most affluent neighbourhoods. Security operatives tracked the suspects, leading to the recovery of critical evidence and the apprehension of all six alleged gang members.
The recovery of the ransom and vehicles is being seen as a significant success in ongoing efforts by security agencies to curb kidnapping and other violent crimes across the Federal Capital Territory.
Police authorities said investigations are continuing to identify other members of the criminal network, establish the full circumstances surrounding the abduction, and determine whether the suspects are linked to other kidnapping incidents within Abuja and neighbouring states.
The FCT Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling criminal syndicates, while urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The development comes amid renewed efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle the growing threat of kidnapping and improve public safety across the Federal Capital Territory.
