Police have arrested the father of Adeyemi Adeniyi, the self-proclaimed Director-General of the purported Presidential Fiscal and Infrastructure Projects Council (PFIPC), alongside a family associate in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as investigations into the controversial organisation gather momentum.
The development was disclosed on Monday by prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), during a telephone conversation with journalists.
Falana said the arrests form part of ongoing police investigations surrounding the activities of the purported council, whose claims of affiliation with the Nigerian presidency have come under intense public scrutiny.
Although authorities are yet to release an official statement detailing the specific allegations against those arrested or the circumstances leading to their detention, the latest development signals an expansion of the investigation beyond the organisation’s principal figures.
The PFIPC has recently attracted widespread attention following questions over its legal status, operations and claims of acting on behalf of the Federal Government. The organisation has been widely described as a purported body, with no officially recognised mandate from the Presidency.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force has not publicly commented on the arrests, while the family of Adeyemi Adeniyi has also not issued any response.
The arrests are expected to further intensify public attention on the ongoing probe, as authorities continue efforts to determine the extent of the activities linked to the controversial group.
