Nigerian troops have killed two suspected members of the Lakurawa armed group during a counterterrorism operation in Kebbi State, military authorities said, adding that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the scene.

According to the military, the operation was launched following intelligence indicating an imminent attack by the group. Troops engaged the suspects in a firefight, neutralising two of them while recovering AK-47 rifles and ammunition.

Security officials said the operation disrupted the planned assault and forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle armed groups operating in Nigeria’s northwestern region.

The military has pledged to sustain intelligence-driven operations to deny criminal and terrorist groups freedom of movement and restore security across affected communities.
