A senior figure in the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), a political association seeking official recognition, has filed a lawsuit against Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), challenging what he describes as the “illegal registration” of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.
The plaintiff, Ahidjo Ibrahim Karlahi, instituted the suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja on June 2, 2026, arguing that INEC’s decision to register the NDC contravened established legal procedures.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) was named as the second respondent in the case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1115/2026, alongside INEC.
The legal challenge comes amid heightened scrutiny of Nigeria’s electoral regulatory framework and the process governing the registration of political parties, with the court expected to determine whether INEC acted within the confines of the law.
