Cleric urges FG to target sponsors and promoters of Terrorism

*Insists security heads must be held accountable for measurable results.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged the Federal Government to issue a 90-day ultimatum to the nation’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorism or resign from their positions.

In a video shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, the cleric expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation, insisting that leadership must be held accountable for measurable results.

“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government: move fast,” Adeboye stated. “Tell our security chiefs, ‘Get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign.’”

The cleric further emphasized that the crackdown must extend beyond insurgents to include their financiers. He noted that service chiefs should be mandated to “eliminate the sponsors, no matter how influential they may be.”

Recalling a past administration where a similar directive was reportedly issued but not fully enforced, Adeboye warned that orders from the Commander-in-Chief must be followed by strict consequences for failure.

While the video was reshared on Tuesday, records indicate the statement was originally made in November 2025 during an RCCG Holy Ghost Service. At the time, the cleric was reacting to international concerns regarding religious violence in Nigeria.

The resharing of the video comes amid a heated public debate. Earlier on Tuesday, the RCCG leadership issued a formal statement defending Adeboye against what it described as “persistent falsehoods and deliberate misrepresentations” by bloggers and certain media outlets.

The church clarified that while the General Overseer frequently offers moral guidance on national issues—including insecurity, corruption, and economic hardship—he maintains a strictly non-partisan stance.

“Pastor Adeboye has consistently encouraged civic participation without endorsing specific candidates,” the statement read, dismissing allegations that the cleric had campaigned for any political party or sought to suppress public protests.

The church added that it would no longer remain silent while its leader’s positions on governance are taken out of context for “personal interests.”
