Fresh cracks have emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, with the party reportedly splitting into two rival factions ahead of the governorship race.

One faction of the party is backing Farah Dagogo, a known ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, as the ADC’s governorship candidate in the oil-rich state.

But a rival bloc loyal to former Rivers governor and ex-minister Rotimi Amaechi is reportedly throwing its weight behind Gabriel Pidomson for the same ticket.

The deepening division signals an intensifying power struggle within the party, raising questions over the ADC’s unity and political direction in Rivers State as alignments ahead of the elections continue to shift.

The parallel endorsements are also seen as a reflection of the wider political rivalry between camps linked to Atiku and Amaechi, two influential figures with significant interests in Nigeria’s opposition politics.

Party officials have yet to issue a unified position on the competing claims, leaving uncertainty over who will ultimately emerge as the ADC’s recognised governorship flagbearer in Rivers State.
