The Senate has confirmed Hon. Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole, JCA, as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, marking a significant addition to the country’s apex court.

Justice Oyewole’s confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, which assessed his credentials, professional experience and performance during the screening exercise. Lawmakers expressed confidence in his capacity to uphold the integrity of the judiciary and contribute meaningfully to the development of Nigerian jurisprudence.

A respected jurist, Justice Oyewole previously served at the Court of Appeal, where he earned commendation for his diligence, depth of legal reasoning and commitment to justice. Senators noted that his elevation reflects his long-standing service to the legal profession and the judiciary.

With the confirmation concluded, the appointment is expected to strengthen the Supreme Court as it continues to play a critical role in constitutional interpretation, electoral adjudication and the protection of the rule of law in Nigeria.
