Former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar held a private meeting on Tuesday with former Zamfara governor and current senator representing Zamfara West, Abdulaziz Yari, at Atiku’s residence in the Federal Capital Territory. The closed‑door meeting, which Daily Trust gathered lasted for an undisclosed period, produced no public comments from either Atiku or Yari, and no official statement on the purpose of the visit was released by the time of filing.

The encounter has prompted political speculation, coming amid intensified discussions of alignments and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, recently allied with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of a broader opposition coalition and has said he intends to remain active in national politics and to contest the next presidential election.

Yari sits in the Senate on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The former governor unsuccessfully contested the presidency of the Senate following the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, losing to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

While the agenda of Tuesday’s meeting could not be independently verified, an ADC source who spoke on condition of anonymity said political positioning had intensified in recent weeks. “This is a political era, and there are alignments and realignments going on across the country,” the source said, adding that although the meeting’s purpose was not confirmed, political motivations could not be ruled out.
