Hon. Gudaji Kazaure, a former member of the Nigerian House of Representatives, has declared that he would move a motion to impeach President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if he were still serving in the National Assembly.

Kazaure made the remark while criticising the current administration’s handling of national affairs, accusing the President of poor leadership and policies that, in his view, have worsened the living conditions of Nigerians. He argued that the hardship faced by citizens, particularly rising inflation and economic pressure, would justify legislative action against the President.

According to the former lawmaker, the National Assembly has a constitutional responsibility to hold the executive accountable, stressing that impeachment remains a legitimate option where a president is deemed to have failed in office. He maintained that lawmakers should prioritise the welfare of Nigerians above political loyalty.

Kazaure’s statement has sparked fresh debate over the role of the legislature in checking executive power, as well as renewed scrutiny of the Tinubu administration’s performance amid ongoing economic challenges.

The Presidency has yet to respond to the comments, but political analysts say the remarks reflect growing discontent among some political figures over the direction of the country under the current government.
