A political firestorm is raging within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has summoned emergency meetings of the party’s top organs, directly challenging its recent decision to expel them.

The faction, operating under the leadership of a chairman identified as Abdulrahman Mohammad, has called for an emergency gathering of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and its National Executive Committee (NEC) for Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

This move comes less than 48 hours after the main PDP body, during its National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Saturday, expelled Mr Wike and several other high-profile members for alleged anti-party activities.

A notice announcing the emergency meetings was issued on Monday by the faction’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and disseminated by Lere Olayinka, the media aide to the FCT minister, via his social media channel.

According to the notice, the meetings are scheduled to take place at the NEC Hall of the PDP National Secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja. The BoT meeting is set to commence at 11:00 a.m., followed by the NEC meeting at 2:00 p.m.

The notice stressed the importance of attendance, stating, “Attendance is very important as crucial matters will be discussed and addressed.”

The expulsion of the Wike group from the main PDP was a dramatic affair. The motion for their removal was moved by a senior party chieftain, Bode George, and seconded by the Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Samaila Buga.

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, then put the motion to a voice vote. Delegates at the convention overwhelmingly endorsed the expulsions, a move widely seen as the party’s attempt to purge itself of internal dissent.

Alongside Mr Wike and Mr Anyanwu, others expelled include the former National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade; former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose; and the Imo State PDP Chairman, Austin Nwachukwu.
