The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) has launched a formal inquiry following the emergence of a viral video that claims examination impersonation occurred during one of its recent assessments. In the video, a woman named Liveth Felix admits to sitting the exam on behalf of another candidate, Sarah Adi. Similarly, a man, Abraham Moses, confessed to impersonating Martins Emmanuel, further escalating the issue.
The individuals involved in the video mentioned a certain Mr. Joshua from Jalingo, Taraba State, who allegedly hired them for the task. The video quickly gained traction on social media, prompting concerns due to claims that one of the impersonated individuals is a public office holder in Taraba.
In response to the controversy, ICAN’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Lanre Olasunkanmi, addressed the situation in a statement on Sunday. He called for caution and urged Nigerians not to rush to conclusions, emphasizing that the institute had already initiated a comprehensive investigation.

“ICAN takes a strong stance against examination malpractice, including impersonation, and has a zero-tolerance policy on such matters,” Olasunkanmi stated. He further reassured the public that the investigation would be thorough and any individuals found guilty would face appropriate disciplinary action. The institute, he said, would make its findings public once the inquiry is concluded.
Olasunkanmi also stressed that ICAN’s examination procedures align with internationally recognized standards of integrity, and any attempt to undermine these processes would be dealt with seriously. He urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims and assured that ICAN was committed to preserving the credibility of its exams and upholding the reputation of the accounting profession both within Nigeria and globally.
