Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has sworn in 17 commissioners, charging them to embrace transparency, accountability, and unwavering dedication in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held on Monday at Government House, Makurdi, Governor Alia urged the newly constituted Executive Council to place service delivery at the heart of governance and maintain close engagement with communities at the grassroots.
He emphasised the need for openness in government affairs, strict adherence to the rule of law, and teamwork, describing these as indispensable for driving the administration’s development agenda.
“Our administration is people-centred. We want Benue to grow, and that growth requires transparency, accountability, and loyalty to the state. You must work visibly at the grassroots, leave a lasting impact, and give your best to the people,” the governor declared.
Governor Alia also underscored the importance of citizen participation, urging commissioners to keep the public well-informed about government programmes and expenditure, while stressing that peace and security remain vital foundations for progress.
Of the 17 commissioners sworn in, eight were retained from the previous Executive Council, while nine are new faces.
Retained commissioners include:
- Tiza Imojime (Works)
- Yanmar Ortese (Health and Human Resources)
- Frederick Lanshima Ikyaan (Education)
- Ugwu Odoh (Water Resources)
- Kwaghgba Amande (Digital Communications)
- Aondowase Kunde (Disaster Management)
- Michael Oglegba (Finance)
- Alumo Orpin (Commerce, Trade and Investment)
Newly appointed commissioners are:
- Dennis Iyaghigba
- Paul Ogwuche
- Yangien Ornguga
- Peter Egbodo
- James Dwem
- Joseph Jir
- Margaret Adamu
- Theresa Ikwue
- Benjamin Ashaver
With the blend of old and new hands, the governor expressed confidence that the Council would spearhead reforms to strengthen governance and accelerate development across Benue State.
