Senator Isa Galaudu, the erstwhile Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Kebbi State in the 2019 elections, has sensationally resigned from the party, citing its impending collapse and undue influence from the national ruling party. The former Kebbi North Senator (2011–2015) and ex-Chief of Staff to the former Senate President formalised his departure in a sharply worded letter dated 20 August, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Augie North, Muhammadu Danbuga.
In his resignation letter, Galaudu, a former banker and board member of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, declared his exit with immediate effect, stating: “It is clear that the PDP is under the sway of politicians from the national ruling party.” The high-profile defection marks a significant blow to the PDP in Kebbi State, raising questions about the party’s future stability.
Urgent Flood Warning Issued for Kebbi Riverbank Communities
In a separate development, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) Kebbi State Directorate has issued an urgent alert to residents along the banks of River Goronyo and River Niger, urging immediate evacuation due to a planned water release from nearby dams. The proactive measure, aimed at safeguarding the structural integrity of the dams, is expected to cause a significant rise in river levels, posing a severe flooding risk to low-lying areas.
Larai Saminu Nazo, Assistant Director and Head of Media and Communication at NOA Kebbi, underscored the gravity of the situation in a statement released on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi. “This is a critical warning,” Nazo stressed. “The controlled release of water is vital for dam safety but will inevitably elevate river levels, endangering communities in flood-prone zones.”
