Controversial Anambra-based cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has stirred debate with his recent advice to prospective university students, urging them to shun courses like political science, history, microbiology, library information science, and sociology.
In a viral video circulated on X on Monday, the cleric, known for his flamboyant preaching style, labeled these courses as “useless,” particularly for students from less privileged backgrounds. “All these poor people if your father does not have any connection in politics or government, don’t go to school and begin to study political science, history, microbiology and sociology. These are useless courses. What are you doing with them?” Odumeje stated.
He further elaborated, “Another one is Library Information Science. It is better for you to go and learn barbing than study that course. We don’t waste our time and money on nonsense now. For education to be a blessing in your family, let the course you study in school be meaningful. That’s why we have a lot of jobless people.” He concluded by advising students to avoid these courses and not “waste four to five years in universities,” presenting himself as a prophetic guide.
This is not the first time Odumeje has made headlines with controversial pronouncements. Recently, he hinted at his intention to contest for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027, despite not yet disclosing a political party. He expressed a belief that Nigeria requires young, “digital-minded leaders” rather than “old cargoes.”
During a sermon on Sunday, a video of which has also gone viral, Odumeje said, “Both past and present leaders have failed to move Nigeria forward due to their age and lack of vision. The country needs a vibrant, resilient, and forward-thinking leader like me to usher in real progress.” He then directly posed the question to his congregation, “Are you ready for me? Odumeje for president? Are you ready for me? Because I know what you need. I know what you want. I want to construct a main road called Citadel for you. I want to give you a modern life, a digital life.”
